‘Don’t you feel hot?’
stepped in my colleague
post lunch
turning the fan on.

‘I felt something’s wrong
but couldn’t pinpoint exactly what’,
I replied, extracting the hanky.

The first reaction was to laugh because I visualized the scene. Then i read it again as I discovered the deeper humour, a zen-like comment on life. I see it as an allegory. In our life, though we know something is bothering us, we are too insensitive and unaware to understand and find remedy.

Again and again I read the lines, Arun. I don't know what you meant or what other meanings others will find in it. To me, it is one of the most profound and disturbing thoughts I have come across in recent times. Kudos!!

Good poem, Arun. The same dimension Balan got came to me reading it.

Balan Sir: I don’t think that I can thank you enough for this, the reassurance. I was about to delete, but then, in an impulse posted it. We are so engrossed in a thousand and one things; the impending deadline or the moronic boss, and forget some of the basics. Just imagine someone sitting profusely sweating without turning the fan on for he doesn’t ‘pinpoint’ what the ‘problem’ is. Believe me, it happened to me exactly, more than once. The problem may be the kind of life I’m living, absentminded, on the periphery, without bothering to go deeper, introspect. Or is it just that I’m so lost in my own world? I don’t know for sure. If ever I’m asked to write a poem on life I would write this;

l.i.f.e

The four letters
around which
I run helter skelter.

Venu Chettan: Nice to hear that you liked it.

Something as basic as sweating can be such a problem and we dont see the simple solution of switching on a fan..thats life for sure, but literally I am this person..I fret and fume and then somebody walks in with such a simple solution which had been staring me in the face , and I go DUH!!!! thank god for friends who care always

Just like Balanji even I read it twice and realised the hidden and deeper meanings.... this is very nice. Hey it is interesting to know that you have started writing poetry.

Welcome Kalpana. Well, I'm not sure whether these little pieces could be called poetry. Thanks a lot for the nice words.
