‘How to Win Friends & Influence People’

With that captivating smile
I adored, you thrust upon my face,
the book; ‘How to Win Friends & Influence People’.

That’s when I decided to sever all ties with you,
once and forever.

I have been out of blogging for sometime, but suddenly come back to see that you have turned to poetry. Whatever happened to ads? :)

Sumi: That’s a cottage industry Sumi, I mean the so called self help ‘how to…’ books industry. I don’t think that I can ever understand the rage.

Madhuri: Welcome back, indeed ads are still a part of life.

Yes, Venu Chettan, I knew. But it doesn’t surprise me, not even the least bit. Because if one keeps on doing things just to please people around, one will gradually lose oneself.

"your health is bound to be affected if, day after day, you say the opposite of what you feel, if you grovel before what you dislike. Our nervous system isn't just fiction, it's part of our physical body, and it can't be forever violated with impunity."

this is knowing it from deep within, arun, you have brought out the crux of the thing. i can write a thesis on how i am trying to disentangle myself from the funny urge to please. sentiment, i think is the basic problem. it clouds your vision. you cannot see the truth. now, i think we have deviated a bit from the subject of the poetry, but overall it is the same problem--being insecure, wanting, wanting, wanting...money, recognition, power...we don't know for what. but, if we can free ourselves from its shackles, we are free. then only can we fly.
