Ah, puppy!

Disposed off
the yellow van
the little ones
marched in silence
with huge bags
on their back.
Then, they lit up
the street
and lifted it off
its early morning
lethargy with a
collective 'ah, puppy!'
as they saw the
young canine
chained to the
pole near
the school gate.

Later, much later,
Wearing suits and ties
And leather briefcases
And laptops
And driving cars too fast
They hit a stray on the road
And driving away to the dying howls
of the dog
They cursed in unison -
" All stray dogs must be shot!"

Venu chettan: Actually I was on my way back from a friend's place worrying about a thousand and one things, then I saw them and felt their excitement, it was almost tangible. The tots cheered me up and made my day!
