Similarities!

Going and seeing a girl is
Like renting an apartment.
(Those who see objectification/
Commoditization of women
In the lines are requested to
Read them as, ‘Renting an
Apartment is like going
And seeing a girl’).

You get to know neither the
Girl nor the apartment.
Still, you nod the nods and smile
The smiles, courteously.
Questions asked, either
By the girl’s dad or her
Super polite uncle; either
By the landlord or his buxom wife.
Questions such as,
‘Are you non vegetarian?’
‘How is life in the city?’
You know the questions
Are interchangeable,
And who asked what
Doesn’t make any difference.

All it takes is some water
To flow under the bridge
To realize that the faucet
Is dripping and the fan makes
A lot of noise; or the girl
With a sweet voice has
A fiery temper and her
Super polite uncle is a crook.

But by then, fortunately,
You would’ve realized
That what is important is
To overlook and not to look.

I liked the parting note -"To overlook".
Well a rented apartment can be familiarized in due course of time and not before long. But the other is neigh difficult , if not impossible even after a few decades, Ha!!!

One can always annul the agreement and opt out, what?

Anil Kurup: Experience counts, I agree!
Balan sir: Easier said than done! In our country, as we are all aware, marriages are not just an affair between two individuals, entire families are involved. And emotions/sentiments of parents often play a key role.
On the other hand, a tenant has to deposit an amount of money, sometimes 10 folds of the monthly rent. As per the agreement, one month’s rent will be deducted from the amount for painting/maintenance etc. In addition to this he/she will have to bear the loss of an equal amount if/she decides to leave before the completion of one year. Besides all these, the broker fee which, again, is usually a month’s rent.
Yes, annulment is possible, but…

have you started on the 'pennu kanal' exercise? arun, no need to approach it with fear. you have no say over luck. if it clicks it clicks; if it doesn't it doesn't. the girl with a crook for an uncle may be sweetest, for all you know!

Yes, Venu chettan, it’s been started. Though there are times I get quite skeptical about it, the way arranged marriages work amazes me. It’s a wonder, the more you think about it the more wondrous it becomes!

just something that came to mind on reading your comment. how does arranged marriages work? is it basically because we all think alike deep down? so it may not be difficult to jell after seeing for the first time and starting off with a clean slate. the problem is when that jelling does not happen because of dissipating tendencies, on either side. it is not a questing of bonding continuing because of insecurity feelings of various character.

My Thoughts and I said...

That is some analogy alright!!!
Enjoyed it thoroughly!!!! :D
All the very best with the 'search'!!!
