You have described the nature of silence beautifully. I've always felt an important measure of a successful relationship is the comfort level enjoyed in the silence between two people. It speaks volumes!!! Lol!!
Arun,you come out rarely these days but with the few lines of sheer wonder. I liked the fantastic analogy here and hoping for nothing but the sweetest of spirits- wine. If silence can, then why not?

Faith ? Maturity? Sure I guess those are important factors as well but I feel perhaps the comfort level goes beyond just these factors. A connection at a very sublime level perhaps. Oh well that could well be the incurable romantic in me speaking ! Whatever the contributing factor, time is what's needed....slowly slowly as you so eloquently put it. :)

I have a proven theory that the comfort in silent companionship is the measure of intimacy between friends, irrespective of sex. There are friends of decades-long acquaintance, yet you feel the discomfort in a one-to-one situation.You struggle to break the frequent gaps of silence and rake your mind for a topic. Then there are others with whom you can be silent for hours yet feel totally at ease...
